Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author's note has a concise explanation of what he did, but a couple of things stand out:

  • For the panels with borders on them, their leftmost and rightmost columns are seen as dark bands, since the borders are uninterrupted bands of dark coloration. The top lines aren't seen, since they're diluted with the colors within the panel. However, it may be possible to detect that they are making the colors within slightly darker.
  • The columns of orange readily betray the presence of Garfield. Jon's presence might be guessed by the light blue bands.

Composited by taking all of the pixels in a single pixel vertical row and averaging the colours.
