Explanation[edit | edit source]

Like its predecessor, #2911, this strip is based on a strip in which Garfield, having gotten himself put in a full-body cast by swatting a large dog without provocation, finds himself the butt of practical jokes on the part of Odie. The second of these involves him putting Garfield's tail in the frame of a chair's back, pushing him down, and releasing him so he oscillates vertically.

Unlike this strip's predecessor, it's Odie's head that changes, this time into that of Fozzie Bear, stand-up comedian for The Muppet Show. "Waka waka waka" (often transcribed "wakka wakka wakka" or "wocka wocka wocka") is his catchphrase for after he tells one of his jokes.

The title is the punchline of a joke he tells in Season 1, Episode 10 of The Muppet Show. In the scene, he employs Kermit's help in telling the joke, saying that he'll cue him with the word "hear" to say, "Good grief, the comedian's a bear!" Much of the scene's humor comes from Fozzie saying "here" or a "hear" that's not intended to be Kermit's cue, at which point Fozzie changes the cue to simply pointing at Kermit. When Kermit finally says what he's supposed to at the right time, Fozzie is able to deliver the aforementioned punchline.
