Explanation[edit | edit source]

In this strip, only two of Lyman's words has been censored in the second panel. The author realizes, thanks to the same effect as in #54, that the censor bars are making the reader think there's something worth censoring behind them, so attempts to direct the reader's mind away from that line of thinking. However, before this, he claims that the censored words were "flower" and "hand", which is not only incorrect, but also implies that the teacher sat on the flower in her hand. The actual text censored here is "tack" and "chair", so the plot of the film Lyman is going to see involves someone sitting on a sharp object as the result of a boy's prank.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Get your mind out of the gutter! Clearly the words censored are "flower" and "hand".

Original strip: 1978-09-09

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: What're you doing tonight, Lyman?
Lyman: I'm gonna catch the new flick down at the Bijou.
Lyman: It's about this kid who puts a ██████ in his teacher's ██████ and she sits on it.
Jon: Not much of a plot.
Lyman: I suppose not. But I still enjoy the movies where the boy gets the girl in the end.
