Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original Garfield strip, Garfield is telling the viewer that today is Thursday, which means it's Lasagna Day. Jon gives him cat food instead. Jon asks him if there was anything else Garfield wanted. Garfield throws the cat food at Jon. This is what's known as a recycled strip.

Here, Jon gives him a "Garfield gets no lasagna and gets mad" strip for New Comic Day. Garfield splats a shrunken version of the July 20th, 1978 Garfield strip into Jon's face. The "All Rights Reserved" Note has been changed To "All Comics Recycled Eventually".

Two things.

Firstly, the way Garfield says it is new comic day seems to state that other days are "reruns" and makes Jon's failure to deliver a good comic all the more awful.

Secondly, it's almost as if Jim actually wanted this to happen, having a recycle of an old strip with the punchline, "let me jog your memory".

Original strip: 1978-07-20, 1983-04-28.
