Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, Garfield is watching Uncle Roy on TV, and it looks like he is talking to the boys and girls, and they're probably wondering where Uncle Roy's dog Bob, is this morning. It seems Old Bob bit Mr. Blue Jeans the Mailman too often so Bob has decided to move to a local research facility to pursue a career as a laboratory animal. Garfield looks at the reader and calls himself "Frank Sinatra".

In this strip, Bob has decided to move to a local research facility to pursue a career as a Phazon test subject. Phazon is a substance from the Metroid Prime series that exterminates or corrupts life that it comes into contact with. The Space Pirates in this series have been experimenting with ways to use Phazon to mutate life forms to use to their advantage. One such possible mutation is an extra set of mandibles.

Garfield looks at the reader and calls himself Samus Aran. Samus Aran is the protagonist of the Metroid science fiction action-adventure game series by Nintendo. She was introduced in the 1986 video game Metroid.

The title is a play on "Man bites dog", an illustration of the difference between an occurrence that is likely to be reported as news, and one that is not, such as a dog biting a man.
