Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original Garfield strip, Liz was speaking some gibberish that Jon didn't understand. Garfield thinks that Liz just called Jon a radish.

Here, Liz says "you are a radish" in German language that Jon doesn't understand, when Nyperold commented on the forums saying: My tentative conclusion is that those are just nonsense words, but I'm neither an expert cryptographer nor an expert linguist.

The "expert linguist" part had gave the author an idea. He replaced that kind of nonsense that Liz was saying with the words "you are a radish" in foreign language. He's done "Linguistics with Liz" and he's invited people to do it too with a template comic.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Liz: Jon?
Jon: Yes?
Liz: Du bist en Rettich
{Liz leaves}
Jon: I will never understand German
Garfield: I think she just called you a radish

When I saw the source strip, I thought it was odd that Liz would be speaking gibberish.

Nyperold commented: My tentative conclusion is that those are just nonsense words, but I'm neither an expert cryptographer nor an expert linguist.

The "expert linguist" part gave me an idea: what if I replaced those nonsense words with the words "you are a radish" in a foreign language? Enter "Linguistics with Liz", where I actually do that, and you can too!

Here's a good template to start out with:
