Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, Jon and Garfield walk to an abandoned house this night, and Garfield finds a tombstone that says "GARFIELD: R.I.P, 6-19-78, 10-30-82, with a flower on it.

Here, Garfield sees a tombstone that reads "Here Lies Squidward's Hopes and Dreams" which is from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode called One Krabs Trash where Mr. Krabs sees Squidward crying as he walks up to a tombstone, putting flowers on it, and leaving.

Garfield walks away, saying "what a baby", which was also from One Krabs Trash that Mr. Krabs said when he read the tombstone, and when Squidward saw him crying.

The author made this an obvious reference to it.
