Explanation[edit | edit source]

There was a photo of an urban streetscape with a large sticker of Garfield on the lower corner of a wall. Stuck above it is a speech balloon saying "Eat your heart out, Banksy."

The author took a screenshot of this while travelling in Cologne, Germany. He had to preserve it for all time here naturally.

The original image actually said, "Du hast zwar Recht, aber ich finde meine Meinung besser. Ja! Da!", which Google translates as "You are right, but I think my opinion is better. Yes! There!". This sounds like a comment on the modern social trend of people giving as much weight to personal opinions as to the truth, so he would guess this is some sort of political or probably social commentary.

He decided he'd replace it with a more Garfield-esque social commentary.

The Square Root of Minus Garfield in the wild is from Google Streetview images. The image cannot be seen there, because it was presumably taken before Garfield appeared. He's on the yellow wall directly below the red BARBER sign on the right.

Garfield: Eat your heart out, Banksy

If you'd like to see exactly where you can see this SRoMG in the wild, it's here: Google Streetview image. You can't see it in that image, presumably taken before Garfield appeared, but he is on the yellow wall directly below the red BARBER sign on the right.
