Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original, Garfield emerged with a "Ha ha ha, silly me", his head mangled, but everything else fine. Of course, there was no death message from the original version of Space Quest I: The Sarien Encounter like there is in this edit. For that matter, the original message, acquired on Kerona when Roger Wilco reaches into a hole in the rock, says "alien", not "growling". This is probably because the hole here is entirely earthly, but has something else to recommend that one not reach in.

The ditty the author treats us to appears to be what the remake of the game plays on deaths.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Dooo-dooo-dooo-do do-do-dooo, do do-do-dooo dooo do-dooo-doooo-dooooo.

Original strip: 1982-08-10.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield: Even though "curiosity killed the cat" is just a silly superstition, I must know what's in this stump.
Thing in the stump: RRRR
{Garfield ill-advisedly sticks his head in.}
Thing in the stump: ROAR!
SFX: RIP! CHOMP SNORT!
{Garfield is gone.}
Message: Whatever is in that hole just enjoyed lunch -- on you. This should teach you to be cautious when encountering growling holes.
