Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original, there actually was a creature of some sort under there. (Either that, or we're seeing from Garfield's perspective and he's seeing something that's not there.) Here, the creature has been removed, and Garfield probably realizes that he was paranoid and is going to continue to be paranoid. (Either that, or he still sees it, and we no longer do.)

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Apparently, watching horror films too late at night can mess with your mind...

Original strip: 1988-06-26

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield: Why do I stay up and watch those old horror movies?
Garfield: What if there's a monster under my bed?
Garfield: That's silly. A monster couldn't fit under there.
Garfield: Unless of course it's a real thin monster.
{Garfield looks under his bed. There's nothing there.}
Garfield: {walking away, scared} The sun should be up soon.
