Explanation[edit | edit source]

Both of the original two panels used in this strip had the talking scale upon which Garfield is attempting to weigh himself tell him, "I don't do livestock," to different consequences. Here, the author has changed them into a reference to an episode of Studio C, after which this strip is named.

In it, a big star comes in to do a scene, but she refuses the offer of a bagel, won't fall down as a part of the scene, and won't work mornings (defined as, apparently, "during the day"); generally, these explanations involve her saying at some point: "Ah na! I don't do (whatever it is)." "Ah na!" appears to be a pronunciation of "Oh no!"

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

[To borrow a phrase from Lubaf, by way of explanation. -Ed]
