Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip presents an edited version of Square Root of Minus Garfield's own About page that shows no acknowledgement of the webcomic Garfield Minus Garfield, removing it from both the origin of the name and the list of other Garfield parodies, as though it never existed.

Hence, the scenario depicted here is Square Root of Minus Garfield without the presence of Garfield Minus Garfield.

So, this comic could alternately be titled... Square Root of Minus Garfield Minus Garfield Minus Garfield.

The title deduced above satisfies the "three in a row" mentioned in the author note, with three repetitions of the phrase "Minus Garfield".

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

That's three in a row, for those keeping count.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Why the name Square Root of Minus Garfield?
We liked the mathematical nature of the title. And in mathematics the square root of a negative (or "minus")...

Other Garfield Parodies
Here are all the other Garfield parodies on the web that we know about:

  • Silent Garfield - Garfield is there, but doesn't say or think anything.
  • Arbuckle - redrawn strips in which Garfield is silent.
  • Nothing Garfield - an existential drama.
  • Garkov - randomised dialogue.
  • Realfield - Garfield is a real cat.
  • Lasagna Cat - Garfield strips turned into short music videos.

  • What if Conan the Barbarian was Garfield's owner? - self-explanatory...
