Explanation[edit | edit source]

As the author's notes state, this strip takes the song Garfield was performing in the original Garfield strip and portrays it as if it were one of the "whiny protest songs from the 60s" referenced in the Animaniacs episode.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

The little opening song Garfield sings in the original strip reminded of perhaps the best joke from the Animaniacs episode "Hot, Bothered and Bedeviled", as they have the same general cadence. For your recollection: "Oh I hate the government, more than you and me! The government stole my goldfish, and unplugged my TV!"

Original strip: 1983-03-27.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

This strip's transcript was hit by mojibake errors in a later site recoding effort; the original transcript unaffected by mojibake is currently lost to the public due to this.
