Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Alternate title: "Varfield".

This one is a bit rough around the edges. It's a reference to VVVVVV, a 2D platformer about flipping your own character's gravity. In that game, the art style is styled after the Commodore 64. Every character looks the same, and only has one color per sprite. They also only have 4 sprites per character. Oh, and I'm pretty sure there was a comic in the past which had the same premise as this one (one color per character), can you put it in an "Ed"? [I couldn't find one. -Ed]

[But one of our keen-eyed readers has found it: Flat-shaded Garfield -Admin]

Original strip: 2009-09-14.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Odie walks in on Garfield sleeping on his stomach. Odie is entirely a pale yellow, even on his ears and tongue. Garfield is the same, but with orange. The Ledge is a striped blue}
Garfield {out loud}: Z
Odie {out loud}: BARK!
{Garfield jumps to the ceiling in a cartoon-like cloud of dust}
{Odie leaves, Jon enters. Jon's skin and hair are the same cyan color as his shirt}
Garfield {out loud, still on the ceiling}: Z
{Jon looks nervously at the ceiling}
