Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, Garfield didn't specify countries of origin, spent the second panel looking at Odie, and gave the answer as "You get a stupid cat."

In this edit, Garfield makes the dog Tibetan and the cat Japanese. This sets up for the new second panel: a picture of a Lhasa Apso -- a Tibetan dog breed -- with the Japanese onomatopoeia for the standard cat sound, "nya", below. The title is a reference to the trope Trademark Favorite Food, cluing us in that the answer is "Lhasa nya", or "lasagna".

The author writes:[edit | edit source]
