Explanation[edit | edit source]

As this strip's title implies, this strip is a showcase of a glitch on the GoComics site that affected a strip's presentation; this glitch was presumably the result of automation elements gone awry, and was never intended by Jim Davis and/or his assistants. This glitched strip affects the strip dated 2004-03-09, as linked to in the author's notes proper, by overlaying the black-and-white elements of the previous day's strip over the non-black-and-white elements of that day's strip, creating a difficult-to-follow mess. The presentation on the former garfield.com site was unaffected (that version has been preserved on the Garfield wiki on Fandom here), and the strip as presented in Garfield Goes Bananas: His 44th Book is presumably also unaffected.

At the time this strip first ran on Square Root of Minus Garfield, the original strip links pointed to the now-busted unsecured "images.ucomics.com" domain, where the 2004-03-09 strip was unaffected by this glitch (its secure-domain mirror, including the strips for both 2004-03-08 and 2004-03-09, is still functional, and 2004-03-09 is still unaffected); the original strip links were shifted to the main GoComics presentations, including the (as of this writing) still-busted original 2004-03-09 strip, some time after the "images.ucomics.com" domain busted.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

While reading some Garfield strips, I stumbled upon this.

Original strips: 2004-03-08, 2004-03-09.
