Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Rule 34G: if it exists, no matter how obscure or ill-fitting it is, a Square Root of Minus Garfield comic will reference it.

And so, to keep the cycle moving, here are two more!

The first comic references World of Goo, a physics-based puzzle game where you guide Goo Balls to pipes that lead to the World of Goo Corporation. There, they build a tower up into the sky. World of Goo Corporation has a few slogans, among them "You can't stop progress", which is how I came up with the idea for the comic.

The second comic references Realm of the Mad God, a top-down pseudo-3D permadeath bullet hell MMO (what a mouthful!) where characters leave behind graves on death. What the grave looks like depends on the number of stats the character has maxed, up to 8. In this case, Garfield looks to have maxed all his stats. That's rough, to die like that!

Do you recognize one of these references? Both? Neither?

Original strips: 1992-05-06, 2011-05-12, 2011-05-13.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

This strip's transcript got hit by a mojibake error in a later site recoding effort; the original transcript unaffected by mojibake is currently lost to the public due to this. The broken symbol in the transcript was originally a trademark symbol.
