Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Garfield's striped sweater bears an uncanny resemblance to Charlie Brown's sweater, which in turn bears an uncanny resemblance to fashion designer Michael Bastian's $995 cashmere sweater. To complete the luxury experience, Garfield is also drinking kopi luwak, the most expensive coffee in the world. With the commercial success Jim Davis has enjoyed, there's lost opportunities here.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield: You know why we like Michael Bastian so much? The guy's not afraid to have a little fun with his inspiration.
Garfield: If this sweater looks vaguely familiar to you it's because Bastian got it right off Charlie Brown's back. It grounds us in nostalgic sensibility in 100% Italian cashmere like a ****ing boss don.
Garfield: The sweater is available now for $995. It's either that or 19,900 sessions with Lucy.
