Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Barring extremely unforeseen circumstances, Kate Bush's nearly 37-year-old single "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" will be reaching #1 in the UK for the first time later today, so I decided to mark the occasion by modifying the Garfield strip from its original release date, 5th August 1985.

I'm pretty sure the 44-year gap between Kate's two UK #1 hits is a record. I'm not sure the 7-year gap between this and the SRoMG strip based on "Wuthering Heights" is a record.

Original strips: 1984-09-24, 1985-08-05.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Garfield is sitting on a broken chair}
Jon: Look what you did to that chair, Garfield. You're too fat
{Garfield walks away huffily}
Garfield: I am not too fat. They just don't make chairs the way they used to
{Garfield is sat contentedly next to a radio}
Garfield: They don't make music the way they used to either
Radio: Be running up that hill...
