Explanation[edit | edit source]

The original strip was a tribute to Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz, and ran on what would have been his 100th birthday. This remix turns the premise into a series of jabs toward Schulz and Peanuts, and was further punctuated by running on the 23rd anniversary of Schulz's death. The editor's note is a standard-issue one that appears whenever the remixed strip appears to be too rife with jabs that could unsettle readers.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

I detest sentimentality, and the original strip overflowed with it. So, let's try and see what the exact opposite of sentimentality looks like.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon {reading from a book}: Once upon a time, there was a boy named Sparky who created a comic strip with very simple art.
Jon: Nobody ever found it funny, and it was so bland nobody ever objected.
Jon: And he died the day before his retirement strip ran.
Garfield {to Snoopy, holding a 100th birthday cake}: I always admired how completely you sold out, dawg.
