Explanation[edit | edit source]

Yes, yes, I know that's Lyman giving a hot take, and not Garfield. Roll with it for the time being.

Before anybody accuses me of not getting the movie, I will note that Screenrants did state that some contemporary viewers at the time were confused, as they were expecting to see a historical drama and instead got a slapstick comedy. Of course, it did also draw some negative reviews from the press as well when it first came out, although it was nowhere near as controversial as Life of Brian.

Original strip: 1978-09-09.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: What movie did you go see last night?
Lyman: It was called "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"
Lyman: It made no sense. In the final scene, police showed up out of nowhere. And it just ended. No credits.
{Jon looks at the viewer in confusion and disgust}
Jon: Not much of a plot, is it?
Lyman: For real! I'll never understand British filmmaking as long as I live
