Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Replace the spider with Hollywood execs and studios, cats with writers, actors and other Hollywood employees, Garfield with the unions striking, robo-cats with AI, and the spider class with social media, and it's basically a reflection of real life. Yeah, I made this as a response to the studios' continuing idiocy in the wake of the (as I write this) ongoing strike. Even though it'll be irrelevant if the strike is over by the time this is published, but still.

Original strip: 2010-11-11.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Garfield holds a newspaper in front of a spider. Jim Davis' name and the original strip's date are shown}
Spider: I'm letting this strike go on until all the cats are demoralized enough to give in
{Garfield looks at us}
Spider: No matter what these buffoons try to pull, I'm never giving them fair pay. Robo-cats will be more efficient than them!
{Cut to a spider teacher teaching a group of spider students in a classroom, after Garfield struck the spider with the newspaper}
Spider teacher: Does anyone here know why we should give cats fair pay?
