Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original comic, Garfield was wearing a costume resembling a giant chocolate chip, and knocking on a cookie jar with the sound effect "NOK NOK". Here, the cookie jar is replaced with Plok, the title character of Plok!, Garfield's costume is recolored to resemble his hood, and the sound effect is changed to "PLOK PLOK".

The claims made about Garfield in the title and author note all apply to Plok!. It is, indeed, a game with no save functionality, and tries to make up for it by having a variety of warps to later stages hidden within the first world - similarly accessed by trying to attack an HP-restoring item. It also has a tie-in comic series, and was remembered more for its soundtrack by Tim Follin.

The alleged Garfield soundtrack linked to in the author note is "Coc' n Rolla" by Begnagrad, which is actually the soundtrack to the infamous fan video Garfielf by PilotRedSun.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

One obscure trick among Garfield players is to attack the catburger in 1978-06-24 instead of eating it, which takes you to a minigame that warps you to 2022. This allows you to quickly regain lost progress after running out of continues. This is one demonstration of the game's wacky nature, as no-one would ever willingly warp to 2022 in real life.

Of course, if you happen to recognize Garfield, it's probably not for the gameplay, or even the tie-in comic series. What Garfield is really known for is its distinct soundtrack.

Original strip: 2009-05-11.
