Explanation[edit | edit source]

The third panel of June 19, 2014 strip where Garfield, Odie and Jon turned very young after Garfield tries to change the year on the calendar to get younger on his birthday were replaced with an edited panel of two robot characters who looks like Japanese manga character Doraemon from a chapter of the Doraemon manga, named "The 100 Years Later Appendix", where those two robots only appeared in an panel, shows that they're in-universe manga character in the future.

Then the scene cuts to outside the panel, where Garfield is turned into an unknown dot, saying "Garfield, you are very, very stupid" line from the September 18, 1981 strip, with Garfield's name edited out from the line.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

It makes more sense since Doraemon debuted years before Garfield.

Original Doraemon comic: Chapter 172 - The 100 Years Later Appendix.

Original strips: 1981-09-18, 2014-06-19.
