Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

There is no intended deeper meaning to this. This is not a backdoor pilot for a new series where Jon has a tenuously understood, inexplicable relationship with Ms. Lisa where she's rejecting him, dating him, or just hanging out based on whatever strip catches my fancy that day. At least one of these statements is true.

Original strip: 1993-09-05.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield: Ho boy...
Jon: I've made a suit out of the Sunday funnies!
Jon: Now, when women come up to me to read the comics, I'll say something funny, if you know what I mean
Sign: CITY PARK
{The Mona Lisa stops to investigate Jon's wardrobe}
{It starts to rain}
{It rains hard, removing Jon's suit}
Mona Lisa: Your punch line is showing
Garfield: Now THAT'S funny
