Explanation[edit | edit source]

The dialogue from 1990-02-19 strip has been translated to Toki Pona, an language invented by Canadian linguist and translator Sonja Lang. The Toki Pona dialogue in the comic were written in sitelen pona, while transcript and description of this SRoMG strip were also written in Toki Pona, but in Latin alphabets.

In transcript, Garfield and Pooky were translated as "Kapi" and "Puki".

toki! sitelen lipu ni li toki e toki pona. toki pona li toki pali pi jan Sonja, sitelen pona li pali kin e ona. nasin pi toki pona li ni: lon pi pali lili li lon pona. mi anu e lipu ni tan one li jo e toki Inli "simple". mi wile e ni: sina sona e lipu ni, mi sona lili e toki pona.

mi anu e sitelen pi jan sitelen tan kalama ona.
