Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Inspired by the story "Primal Self" (from the book Garfield: His 9 Lives) and also by Lyman's disappearance from the Garfield strip, it was how I decided to make this dark strip. A little gruesome, isn't?

Original strip: 1981-12-05.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield {pointing to something}: Hey, Nermal. Do you want to play killer lion with Lyman? He's in Jon's basement.
{Nermal quickly runs on all fours into Jon's basement as Garfield follows him - also on all fours. Both cats smile sinisterly}
{Garfield quickly closes Jon's basement door; Nermal attacks Lyman ruthlessly biting his neck, causing a pool of blood to protrude from underneath the door itself}
Garfield: Bye bye, Lyman!
SFX: SLAM
Nermal: ROWR!!
Lyman {off-screen}: NOOOOOOO!! AAAAARGH!!
