Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip parodies the premise of, and thus is the first unofficial extension of, Square Root of Minus Garfield's "birthday series" that was held in celebration of its 2000th strip. Every Square Root of Minus Garfield strip between #1978 and #2014 made usage of the original Garfield strips corresponding to [SRoMG strip number]-06-19; as such, this strip's premise essentially involved the author attempting to fetch the 2015-06-19 strip--which, as this strip's original run date would suggest, failed due to the 2015-06-19 strip not yet having been published at the points of creation and submission. (The 2015-06-19 strip had likely already been written by this point due to production lead time.) The official Garfield website's 404 error page (taken down on 2020-06-19 along with the rest of the website) was thus worked into the original Garfield strip's setup of Odie using a computer (shopping on "www.dingleball.com" in the original strip), thus portraying Odie as doing what the author had done in the process of actually creating this strip.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Based on my (failed) attempt to load the 2015 birthday a year early.

Original strip: 2000-07-30.
