Explanation[edit | edit source]
As explained in the author's notes, this strip is essentially a re-creation of the Garfield strip that ran on the day Pac-Man was first released using Pac-Man assets and rewordings to match; Garfield is played by Pac-Man, while Jon is played by Blinky. The other three ghosts are off to the bottom-left corner and make mention of two Square Root of Minus Garfield running gags; Pinky and Clyde reference the "constantly changing"/"pudding pops" running gag, while Inky brings up the blender and threatening to glue one to one of the other ghosts' face (it is unclear whether he was primarily targeting Pinky or Clyde).

This is based on a strip that was print the same day that Pac-Man first appeared in Japanese arcades, which was May 22, 1980. There are also mentions of two memes, because once a horse is dead, you gotta keep beatin' it 'till it's nothing but bone.

The second-to-last word in Pinky's line is misspelled two different ways between the strip proper and the transcript (the intended spelling was "constantly"); the strip proper misspells the word as "constantley", whereas the transcript misspells it as "constanley".
