Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip follows in the footsteps of 4: Choose Your Own Garfield by having a single strip branch into different possibilities for the third panel, but this time, it attempts to avoid humor. The original ending of the strip used here has Garfield declare his encounter with a spider whose family he killed an "awkward moment". This edit replaces that panel with 3 new ones, each changing Garfield's dialogue to something less funny.
- The first one shows Garfield telling the reader to go to the next strip, as there's no way he can make light of the death of the spider's family.
- The second one shows Garfield admitting that it'd be unnecessarily cruel of him to make a joke about being reminded that he killed a family of innocent spiders in front of the only survivor.
- The third one shows Garfield hoping the spider doesn't try to press charges against him for killing his family. The author's notes state that this panel is (in hindsight) a bit funnier than intended, as the same dull expression on Garfield's face as he says his line makes it look like he's being sarcastic and hoping to go to trial, because if everyone else who shows up for the trial are spiders too, he could squash them all to save himself from familicide charges.

I tried to make all three alternative endings as unfunny as possible, although I'm afraid some humor sneaked into ending C due to the possible implication that Garfield was being sarcastic and actually wanted a trial in open court, so he could squash the judge, jury, prosecutor and various officers of the court with a rolled up newspaper.
