Garfield Numerosity 6

Explanation[edit | edit source]

This is the sixth installment of the Garfield Numerosity series, based on the Numerosity series from Sesame Street. This comic adapts the sixth film, which centers around the number 6. That film ended with the baker carrying 6 strawberry shortcakes, but that scene isn't adapted. Here's each panel of the comic in order:

  • 6 chicks: This panel uses 6 images of Booker the chick from U.S. Acres, a short-lived comic from the 80s that Jim Davis created and worked on alongside Garfield.
  • 6 squares: This panel uses the cover panel from the 2000-08-20 strip. The original panel showed the title of the comic scratched into the chalkboard, with Odie standing nearby, clearly affected by the scratching. This panel crops out Odie's side and replaces the scratches with a drawing of 6 squares, mimicking the layout of the original scene.
  • 6 flying things: This panel uses a panel from a comic (1996-08-18) where Garfield has a "shoulder angel/shoulder devil" situation just from contemplating whether or not to eat a donut, with the shoulder angel and shoulder devil both being donuts, which Garfield eats alongside the normal donut. The original panel only has the angel donut, and 5 more flying things (a bird, a bat that looks like Garfield, a Koopa Paratroopa from Super Mario World, a paper airplane, and a Propeller from Kirby's Dream Land 3) are added to make five.
  • 6 cats: This panel uses a green backdrop with 6 cats laid over it. Garfield is one of the cats in question, and the other 5 are the Cat in the Hat, Queen Cordelia from Cucumber Quest, Eek the Cat, Felix the Cat, and Top Cat.
  • 6 cameras: This panel uses a panel from a comic (1985-03-24) where Jon attempts to take a photo of Garfield and Odie, only for something to go wrong, leading to the camera being shoved up Jon's nose. The original panel only has 1 camera, and 5 more are added here.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Based on a Numerosity segment from Sesame Street, it counts five different sets of features.

For "six chicks", I used six Bookers. A bird, a Garfield bat, a Koopa Paratroopa, a paper airplane, a flying doughnut, and a Propeller from Kirby's Dream Land 3 appear behind Garfield for "six flying things". The other 5 cats making a cameo appearance in panel 4 are The Cat in the Hat, Queen Cordelia from Cucumber Quest, Eek the Cat, Felix the Cat, and Top Cat.

Original strips: 1985-03-24, 1996-08-18, 2000-08-20.
