Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip is a reference to 300, which features a famous scene in which King Leonidas and his guards kick a messenger into the well near the Spartan gates after the messenger demands that they submit to King Xerxes. The scene inspired a wave of memes with one in particular leading into its own type of remix. The humor comes from likening Leonidas' show of defiance to Garfield's own habit of kicking Odie off the table.
