Explanation[edit | edit source]

As the author of this strip confirmed, this strip was created in response to #3314's "slight against Sesame Street". As opposed to criticizing himself for singing such a "childish" song, Garfield is now expressing frustration at how catchy Sesame Street songs are (such examples are often called earworms). As well as Number Guy (the editor's note alludes to someone other than the author of #3314 remembering that character), this edit makes a reference to "Rubber Duckie", one of the more enduring Sesame Street songs.

The title of the strip is a secondary jab against the original, as instead of being a Bible verse, it is a reference to Reverend Lovejoy from The Simpsons and his dismissal of the Bible in the episode "Secrets of a Successful Marriage": "Marge, just about everything is a sin. You ever sat down and read this thing? Technically, we're not allowed to go to the bathroom."

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Don't diss Sesame Street. That's the moral for today.

[I guess this strip is in answer to Muchacho1994's implied final line question. -Ed]

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Garfield is alone one day, bored, rocking on his own fat}
Garfield: ♪Hummm♪
Garfield: ♪How many sheep will jump over my bed, bef—♪
{Garfield realizes what he is singing, and quickly becomes angry with himself}
Garfield: Great, I just got "Rubber Ducky" out of my head, and now this is stuck there. Why is Sesame Street so catchy?
