Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip takes advantage of the fact that, until a few years prior to this strip's publication, the original Garfield strip was not colorized on GoComics (and, as of this writing, still isn't on the secure-domain mirror of the smaller-sized strips formerly hosted on the now-busted "images.ucomics.com" domain). As such, the author took the effort to colorize the strip on their own in a clearly amateurish-looking effort (which the author basically openly admits in the author's notes); the colors used here mirror those in the version formerly on garfield.com (and preserved on the Garfield wiki on Fandom, as seen here). The author's notes basically explains that the original strip has since gained color on the main presentation of the GoComics archive; however, it tends to exhibit vast coloring differences in comparison to the version formerly on garfield.com as do many of the strips from that particular era (for another example, compare the infamous North Pole-dwelling penguin strip of 1996-01-13: the current main GoComics version has vastly different colorization from the versions seen in Square Root of Minus Garfield remixes; the former garfield.com version, as seen on the Garfield wiki on Fandom here, and the secure-domain mirror of the smaller-sized former "images.ucomics.com" strips as seen here, are of the colorization typically seen in SRoMG remixes).

This strip, much like the original Garfield strip, was published on a leap day, that being February 29; both 1996 and 2024 are leap years that add an extra day to the end of February, which in non-leap years is 28 days long.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

An alternative timeline where GoComics did not colorize this strip.

Original strip: 1996-02-29.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{The strip is almost colorized, apart from some leftover white and some bleeding over the lines}
Jon: Garfield, may I have a word with you?
Jon {pointing to phone}: Can you explain this?
Garfield: This is a wild guess, but I'd say you're on the phone
{Jon removes his hands from the phone handset, which remains adjoining his face}
Jon {angrily}: Have you been playing with the glue again?
Garfield: Woah! You gotta show me how you do that!

Trivia[edit | edit source]

The transcript misspells the boldfaced word; the strip itself spells it "Whoa" instead of "Woah".
