Explanation[edit | edit source]

As the author's note implies, this strip was a spur-of-the-moment inspiration based on the similarities between Garfield's dialogue in the original strip and a mantra spoken by Godot in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations--namely involving seventeen cups of coffee. This strip switches out Garfield in favor of Godot, recolored Godot's coffee cups to match those already there in the original strip, and slightly reworded the dialogue to fit Godot's profession (he's the rival prosecutor in his game of origin; his backstory is spoilerific and will not be explained here).

The number of cups are the same between the original strip and this strip; no cups were inadvertently deleted in the process of making this remix.

At the time the author created this strip, he was not aware of 3630: Godotfield and thus inadvertently reused the title; #3630's original strip was a previous canonical take on the 17-cups-of-coffee joke, and #3630 was also an Ace Attorney-style remix. The author likewise was also unware of 1521: Godotfield, which drew from the same inspiration Capcom did when naming the Ace Attorney character.

The author writes[edit | edit source]

Basically, as soon as I noticed how many cups Garfield had allegedly downed in the original strip, I knew what had to be done, even if Phoenix Wright himself were to loudly shout "OBJECTION!" over my shoulder (yes, nobody's actually forcing ANY of us to do these things)...And yes, I know the cups in the last panel do not appear to add up to the number stated...

Godot appears courtesy of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations.

Original strip: 2023-06-26.
